I Am From Philippines
5th March, 2010
“I’m a Filipino!” This, I make sure my daughter knows by heart and that she’s proud when she say it. And I know I am successful, so far because SHE DOES & SHE IS! During the death of President Cory, we often play the songs Magkaisa, Handog ng Pilipino sa Mundo and Bayan Ko. And when there are natural calamities hitting our country, hubby and I make sure that we explain to her what’s happening when we watch the news. That way she’s being aware of what her kababayans are going through.
We seldom speak with her in English. We make sure that she will not forget her own language and that she can speak it fluently even though we’re living in an English land. Most people here are surprised when they hear Alyssa speak Tagalog. So far, she can speak both languages fluently and it makes us feel proud.
For their International Week, here’s their assignment:
And the stage Dad made the assignments:
Proud to show President Corazon Aquino, the Philippine Flag and of course, the Jeepney.
Manny Pacquiao (though I personally like him only when he fights), the famous Lechon, our authentic dessert, Halo-Halo and our natural landmarks Mayon Volcano and Banaue Rice Terraces.
And just this morning, they had an assembly and Alyssa was one of the students chosen to say where she’s from. I was not really informed that parents can watch, so when the teacher told me about it when I brought Alyssa to school, I hurriedly went back to the house just to get my iPhone (yes, we don’t have a digicam! LOL) so I can keep even a not so nice picture of her.
And she said it out loud. The parents all looked at me and smiled. =)
In fact, yesterday when we went to the grocery to buy my ingredients for my Embutido (which I will soon post in Come Dine In), she keeps on saying “Mum, I am a Filipino! I’m from Philippines!” and I tell yah, it was LLLOOOUUUDDD!!! Proud much??? LOL
